BIG SUR PARK SCHOOL AT ESALEN

WEEK 1: JULY 10-12

WEEK 2: JULY 17-19

Big Sur Park School Summer Program 2018 launched in July on the grounds of the original Gazebo School Park at Esalen. Children were welcomed over the haybales and into the outdoor classroom: a one-acre Park "designed with the educational goal of maximizing the full use of the child's growing body and unfolding intelligence."

Teachers supported the development of a living relationship with the land, the self and each other, encouraging children to follow their interest as they explored this magical learning environment.

BIG SUR PARK SCHOOL AT BIG CREEK

WEEK 3: JULY 24-26

WEEK 4: JULY 31-AUG 2

Big Sur Park School took up residency in the natural wonderland of Big Creek Reserve in partnership with the University of California Natural Reserve System and University of California Santa Cruz.

This was a special opportunity to explore the rich and varied terrain of this protected ecosystem, set aside specifically for educational and research purposes. Children explored the creeks, forest, meadows and beach and gathered for picnic lunches and special projects.

Sustainability

The first year has proved huge victory but there is much work still to do and we need your help!

This program needs to be designed to meet the needs of the community and requires a broader community involvement to be a long term success.

What was created was an informative pilot program to get our foot in the door and to understand what it takes to provide an educational experience - now is the time to create something substantial, sustainable and spectacular!
