Our Mission

Big Sur Forest School provides an outdoor early childhood experience for the Big Sur community. Together, children and teachers gather around Big Sur to explore self in relation to the natural world. Learn More

Our Program

Big Sur Forest School offers a year-round early childhood program for children ages 1-5, hosted throughout Big Sur’s natural spaces. The learning experience supports the development of the whole child through an emergent, play-based curriculum held with connection, trust, and respect. Immersed in exploration of the natural world and each other, children develop resilience, responsibility, and a thriving sense of self in relationship with the world.

The skills of words and logic have no matter, no substance, without a sense of planet and life, a sense of context: which is full of meaning, which matters, which has its roots in matter, the mother earth.
